Rest
The Impossibility of Rest: Fallen Rocking Chair
During years of working and raising a child, rest is not something that came often. I made this sculpture at Art New England in Bennington, Vermont one summer. It was a two foot high rocking chair with uneven runners of different sizes and an abstracted figure perched uncomfortably on the slanted seat.
While bringing it home in the backseat of my car, the glue holding the sticks melted and the piece fell apart. I was a little dismayed, then excited, thinking about the possibility of reconfiguring the pieces.
